1. Inspection and Preparation
We recommend protecting the area you are working in with a dust sheet or similar to protect the area in front of the fireplace/chimney/wood stove.
Open the damper and inspect the flue with a flashlight and mirror if needed. If a black shiny glaze is present, consider having it inspected by a professional chimney sweep.
You may need to consider removing log burners or other similar items for best results when using your Chimney Maxblast.
Tape the included plastic sheet (included with your Chimney MaxBlast) to cover the opening of the fireplace or wood stove.
Make a small incision in the plastic sheet, large enough to fit the brush head through.
Attach the brush head to a rod and extend the length by attaching an additional rod.
Attach the drill adapter on the last rod and connect the drill adapter to your power drill.
Only once at least 2 rods and the brush head are assembled should it be inserted through the incision in the plastic and into the flue/chimney.
2. Time To Sweep
Start the drill and sweep the flue/chimney with an up and down motion.
Carefully attach one rod at a time until you reach the top of the chimney.
NEVER keep the rods spinning unless you are moving them up and down, as friction can overheat rods and cause them to break.
Reverse steps 1–3 when finished. Disconnect each rod one by one when pulling out, using the pointed end of the Allen Key.
3. The Clean Up
Vacuum soot from the fireplace/harth area . It is best to do this as you go to prevent buildup of soot.
Remove the plastic sheet carefully and wipe it down with warm soapy water. Tape used to secure it should be cut away/removed carefully to prolong the plastic sheet’s life.
Rinse and dry the brush head and rods with warm soapy water.
Safely store your Chimney MaxBlast Kit in the storage bag provided.
HOW TO TELL WHEN YOU’VE REACHED THE TOP OF THE CHIMNEY
Before connecting your drill, connect rods and the brush head up the chimney until you hear and feel it contact the underside of the cap.
Go slowly when feeding rods upward to prevent pushing the cap off the chimney.
It is also a good idea to have a second person spot you from outside your home and let you know when the brush head has reached the chimney cap.
The bright orange bristles should help it stand out.
4. Helpful tips
Using a wet/dry shop vacuum is a great way to clean soot from the fireplace floor or wood stove chimney.
IMPORTANT: Your wet/dry shop vacuum must have a fine dust filter to prevent soot from blowing into the living area while vacuuming.
The chimney brush head can be trimmed with scissors to fit a stove top pipe flue. Trim it about 1/4” longer than your flue for best results.
Hand wipes work well for cleaning the rods as you pull them out of the chimney.
Use the included Allen Key (hex end) to loosen the snap-lock system on the rods and brush head.
You can also use graphite spray to help loosen the snap-lock system.
